Purpose and Style

Homeworlds serves several purposes. First, it is intended for publication. This does not imply a commercial launch, just that it is meant to be released in a complete state to the public at some point.
Homeworlds is science fiction, with a heavy emphasis on verisimilitude. Wherever possible, the technology is extrapolated from known scientific theories in the real world. This is preferable to inventing new underlying scientific concepts (such as subspace, hyperspace, etc) to explain the technology otherwise necessary for dramatic flow.
There are no aliens, per se, but there are several widely divergent races of human. The differences were made possible by genetic and cybernetic manipulation, in order to adapt to conditions different from those of Earth.
Homeworlds is a mix of "clean" and "dirty" sci-fi, and everything in-between. It is influenced by many popular science fiction television shows and movies, but the setting attempts to be quite distinct from all of them. Moreover, despite being influenced by cinema, the setting makes no attempt specifically to establish a "cinematic feel" for the game. The rules will be crafted to fit the setting, and to provide enjoyment for the players, rather than to fit a particular ideology.
